About

Hello reader! I’m Valerio Velardo. I’m the CEO and co-founder of Melodrive, an AI-based startup that focuses on automatic generation of music for interactive media. I have a PhD in Music and Artificial Intelligence and a bunch of degrees in music. I’m also a full-stack developer who enjoys freelancing. In my career as a developer/researcher, I’ve mostly engaged in Artificial Intelligence and Computational Creativity, but have occasionally worked as a web developer too.

I like to consider myself half scientist and half musician. During the morning, I keep myself busy doing research on music and AI, coding and running my business. At night, I write music and play video games.

I’m an advocate of machine creativity and think that computers will, at some point in the future, be as good at composing, painting and writing poems as some of us  are.

Forgot to mention – but you may have got it by now! –  I’m a Pythonista. I love developing code in Python, from simple scripts to huge libraries. It’s more than 15 years, since I heard the first time about Python. Gosh… I’m getting old!

Teaching is another big passion of mine, that I developed while working as a Music Theory instructor at the university.

This blog is the combination of my passions for Python and teaching. Another – more practical – reason I started this blog is that it helps me to keep track of the Python projects I work on in my free time. I hope you may find this resource useful!

What should you expect from this blog?

In this blog, I’ll regularly post tutorials for beginner, intermediate and advanced learners. Even though I’ll try to cover several topics of the Python programming language, I’ve planned to a have a  specific focus on general Artificial Intelligence applications.
